Our Year 4 students investigated how plants transport water through an engaging hands-on experiment using lettuce leaves and coloured water.

By placing lettuce leaves in coloured water and observing the changes over time, students discovered how water is absorbed and travels through the plant’s vessels to reach different parts of the leaf. They carefully recorded their observations and learned that this transport system is essential for keeping plants healthy, hydrated, and growing.

This practical investigation strengthened students’ understanding of water transport in plants, while developing their observation, scientific inquiry, and recording skills.
