🎨 Chromatography Project

Our Year 7 students explored the colourful world of science through their Chromatography Project, investigating how different pigments in ink can be separated using a simple but powerful technique.

Students placed drops of ink on filter paper and allowed water to travel upward through capillary action. As the water moved, it carried the various pigments at different speeds, creating beautiful patterns of separated colours. They then compared how inks from different pens separated and discussed why some dyes travelled farther than others.

This hands on investigation helped students understand key scientific ideas such as chromatography, solubility, capillary action, and separation techniques, while strengthening their observation and analytical thinking skills.
